"Learn everything you can because someday you'll use it all."

"They don't want to hire you, they want to hire your ideas."
-James Balog
I enjoyed Balog's lecture quite a bit, it was very interesting. All of his insights, coming from his experience as a working professional, were all very helpful. He said that communication in today's modern world is critical, and that we, as Americans, have become lost and fragmented. Both Hollywood and technology (social media) are to blame for this. He issued a call to action and stated that we need to bring "brains, heart, and life experiences back to the world." We also need to be "bigger, bolder, less selfish people" and learn how to see and be sensitive to the world.
All of the quotes that he said were all very relevant to designers and communicators. It's always important to work hard and try to be the best that you can be, because society needs good, strong communication and real stories. Visual Communication is all about sharing ideas so it's vital for young designers to work hard and learn all that they can.
